Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description
After completing Teach for America’s - 2017 Philadelphia Institute I will be responsible for my very own classroom! I can't wait to decorate and meet my students and their families. One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.
To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework. Thank you so much in advance for supporting me and my students at the beginning of this exciting journey.
PledgeCents allows me to keep whatever I raise, so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my first group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Hello Everyone
September 15, 2017
Sorry for taking so long to put this out there, I've been trying to contact everyone personally, but the site doesn't give me emails of investors. First off let me say this THANK YOU SO MUCH. I appreciate everything you all have done and it has been a successful whirlwind of 4 weeks teaching school here in DC. With your donations I have been able to get a lot of materials for my room and I still have some left to finance future experiments. So far I have been able to create Ooblek with my 8th graders as we explore states of matter and look at differences between solids, liquids, and gasses. Also, we have conducted studies on volume and density as well. My 7th graders and I are in Life Science. Presently we are learning about bacteria and cells. My next big experiment with them will be creating bacteria cultures, and measuring the amount of cellular respiration in yeast. In my environmental science class we have been looking at live cultures from river water and exploring the outside world as we look at producers, consumers, and trophic levels. For future experiments I want to create rollarcoasters, mousetrap cars, and ice cream for my physical science class and get materials for dissections and organ systems for my life science class. Your donation has started me on this path and I could not have done it without you. I will try to get pictures of these things as the year goes on and try to do a better job of keeping everyone updated. Being a teacher has been stressful, fun, and enlightening. I feel that I have grown a lot just from this past month of teaching. I apologize for taking so long to put this out there, but please never think that I don't appreciate everything you all have done. I am striving to be the best teacher I can possibly be and I couldn't do it without you all. To close this out I'll leave everyone with a quote I put up in my room: "Until lions learn to speak, the story will always glorify the hunter". Thank you for helping me give my students their voice.
Yours in service,
Edward Hunt
