Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description
After completing Teach for America’s - 2017 Philadelphia Institute I will be responsible for my very own classroom! I can't wait to decorate and meet my students and their families. One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.
To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework. Thank you so much in advance for supporting me and my students at the beginning of this exciting journey.
PledgeCents allows me to keep whatever I raise, so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my first group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Summer School!!!
July 10, 2017
Last week I began teaching summer school for students who struggled in science. I am currently teaching a class of about 20 6th-8th graders general physics in Mastery Pickett Middle School. Every day we learn a lesson and then complete a lab to explain that concept though a "hands-on" approach which the students love. It is through these lessons that I am realizing how important it is for students to get lab experience and begin thinking critically. I am so grateful for the money I have raised so far and cannot wait to use it for more labs next year!
Science Teacher!!!
June 25, 2017
I recently completed my certification tests and am officially going to be a SECONDARY SCIENCE TEACHER! (aka grades 7-12)
As excited as I am, I'm also aware that science is one of the most expensive subjects. I would love to be able to make my classroom fun by planning experiments and allowing the kids to get some hands-on experience. Unfortunately, the science budget in Philadelphia public schools is very minimal and I will be paying for many of these labs out of my own pocket.
If you are able to help, I will promise to put all donations to good use and will keep you updated on the labs you brought to my classroom!
