High Tech Elementary - Gender and Race Problems

The Description

With these funds our third grade class will raise money to pay for silk screening t-shirts.  Our class has been studying social norms and stereotypes around gender and race, and we want to change the negative stereotypes by raising awareness.  Our original design and message will encourage everyone to "be what you want to be."  We want to give these shirts away to spread our message.  So, if we raise this money through Pledgecents, then we won't have to charge for the shirts.  The cost is $1 per each shirt.  Our goal is 200 shirts, which requires $200.  If we raise more money, then we will print more shirts.  If we raise less money, then we will print less shirts.

Here is a link to our class website that describes our projects and shows us at work:  http://mrjeremymanger.weebly.com/3rd-grade-action

Back Up Plan

If we do not meet our goal then we will still make t-shirts, but less of them.  At $1 per shirt, how many shirts we make will be defined by how much money we raise.

Hi Kids in Mr. Manger's class. I wish we could be there to see your exhibition on your work about gender and race stereotypes. These are such important issues for you to think about. We have much to learn in our country about how to treat people respectfully, especially people who seem different from us in some way. You all are going to really make a difference! I can't wait to see your tee shirts. What an important message to spread! I hope you feel pleased with what you have accomplished. Fondly, Mary Anne
