Uplifting. Focused. Thoughtful. Zoe is returning for her second season as captain of the girl's team. She has a presence that puts the team at ease. She leads by example and last year lead the team, narrowly missing an individual debut at the State Meet. Her quiet confidence is the perfect compliment to Julio's gregarious leadership. Let's send Julio AND Zoe!

Motivated. Dedicated. Quirky.  These words describe the 2016 Desert Edge High School Cross Country team, but more than anything, they are embodied in our fearless leader, Julio Canchola. This is his senior year and  third season as captain. He has helped spark a running revolution at Desert Edge which has tripled our team's size since his freshman year.

Last year, Julio lead his team to state for the first time in school history and is determined to make his final season the best yet. Our pre-season training camp is highly anticipated by many of our runners, however, even the $20 registration fee prevents some from participating. Desert Edge does what it can for its athletes, but as a Title One school, money is tight and we fundraise for nearly every expense.

Sending Julio (AND ZOE) to the 2016 Nike Flagstaff High School Running Camp ($595 per attendee) would be the highlight of his running career. The camp, which takes place from July 19-23, features a week of running at high altitude along with coaching and training advice from professional coaches, Olympic athletes and world-renowned experts in the field.

Few people realize that cross country, while an individual effort, is truly a team sport. By sending our team captain to this once-in-a-lifetime camp experience, we create ripple effects that will impact the entire team.  From injury prevention, form drills and mental techniques Julio has the ability to translate his individual experience to a collective impact that will last for many seasons to come. Let’s send him to camp!
