Shipboard Environmental Education Field Trip
Verified Non-Profit

The Description
On May 20, a select group of 30 of my students will be climbing aboard Living Classrooms' sailboat "Sigsbee" to experience a day in the life of a ship captain and a marine biologist. They will be practicing teamwork and leadership in order to raise and lower sails, perform scientific tests, and explore the commerce, history, natural resources, and ecosystems of the Chesapeake Bay. They will work in groups to test water quality, study plankton under a microscope, learn to navigate the boat, and dissect an oyster. As a class, the students will get to trawl for marine life and identify and study the wildlife they catch. Students also get to compete in a buoyancy challenge where they build their own boats and test their ability to stay afloat.
In order to go on this field trip, we applied for and were awarded a $700 field trip grant from Target. To make this a completely free trip for qualifying students, we need only $130 to cover the remaining cost of the trip. Any size donation you are willing to make towards my students' environmental and hands-on education is much appreciated!!
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal, I will apply whatever funds are raised towards the remaining cost of the field trip.
