Science on Wheels

The Description

With these funds I will be able to invite experts from the Houston Museum of Natural Science to come onto KIPP Liberation's campus and outreach program that has TEK specific activities. Students will have access to resources and participate in hands on lab activities and connect science to the outside world through stations. Some of the stations are "investigate a crime scene and understand the role of natural decomposers, explore the chemistry behind fireworks and the engineering behind everyday use products like diapers!" This would be a unique experience for our students to witness cool science aligned to their grand level! I truly believe that experiences such as these cultivate a love for learning which is really important for my students. Most of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and their exposure to science is mostly restricted to what they get from school and if I have the ability to expose them to applicable science, I want to make sure they have those opportunities as much as possible.

Here's the breakdown:

Cool Chemistry Presentation on stage = First presentation is $375 for 250 students and $150 for another assemble for 200 students.

Bugs on Wheels presentation= $425 for 6 presentations. Each presentation can have up to 30 participants for a total of 180 students.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will use as much of the money to possibly to either visit the museum or pick fewer program activities based on how much money this project gained.

Patrick,
Thank you so much for your investment. What an awesome way to honor your mom! She sounds like someone who really loved science and teaching.

In honor of my mother, Joanne C. Salem. Ma taught science in Cleveland and found ways to get people from NASA, the National Weather Service, and USGS to visit her classroom. She would absolutely support your efforts, Ann. Best of luck on your campaign.

About the Creator

I am a Teach for America alum going into my third year as a science teacher at KIPP Liberation College Prep. I am privileged to teach students who are inquisitive about the world around them. It's an honor to be part of their learning process. What motivates me to work with students is the reality that they are the future. That drives me to nurture them as critical thinkers who connect science lessons to anything and everything outside the classroom so that they continue to be good stewards and problem solvers.
