Ms. Garcia's Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

What is Teach For America?

After completing Teach for America’s - 2019 Miami-Dade Institute in a few days, I will be responsible for my very own elementary classroom! I can't wait to make it a comfortable learning space and meet my students and their families.

One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. These funds will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my students in their first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my first group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide for the students of my very first classroom:

Thank you so much in advance for supporting me and my students at the beginning of this exciting journey. I appreciate every cent you can give.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

UPDATE: I officially accepted a position as a 5th Grade Science teacher at Carrie P. Meek/Westview K-8 Center, a public school in Miami, Florida. I am beyond excited to teach my students about space, geology, climate science, energy, public health, animals, plants, weather, and soo much more.

My school is a Title I school (meaning a majority - 97% to be exact - are economically disadvantaged). In addition, students in Florida are tested in science in the 5th grade in the Florida Statewide Science Assessment, so I want to do my absolute best to help my students prepare for the state exam and, most importantly, develop a passion for science.

As a new teacher, there are many supplies that I'll need to purchase to support my students in general; but as a science teacher, I'll also need to purchase additional science equipment and resources to allow my students to explore and learn about the world we live in.

If you are able to help kickstart my classroom, I am re-sharing my fundraising page below. Any donation helps, and it doesn't have to be large to have a huge impact on my students.

$5 can provide 5 composition notebooks for lab journals or 48 pencils.
$10 can provide 10 rulers or 2,000 sheets of paper.
$40 can provide a microscope.

My future students and I truly appreciate any and all donations! :)

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education.

I'm extremely grateful and fortunate to have been selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of 2 years to teach in high-need public schools.

This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to my teaching license area.

I can't wait to set up my classroom, meet my students and their families, and begin my first year with Teach For America.
