The Young Inventors Showcase (YIS) is now in its 28th year. It currently is hosted by about 25 schools in the Houston/Gulf Coast area. The finals this year will be at the Wolff Center of Entrepreneurship at the C.T. Bauer School of Business at the University of Houston on the third Saturday in May.

I started up the Houston Inventors Association (HIA) in 1983, as a result of a conference I put together at the University of Houston's Hilton Hotel to promote the newly passed Small Business Innovations Research Act (SBIR). Members of the HIA started up the YIS in 1988, and I adopted it a few years later. In 1999, I formally took over the ownership of the YIS, and in 2002, I placed it in the ownership of a 501.c.3 non-profit that I formed, called the Young Inventors Association of America, Inc. (YIAA).

In 2005, the Children's Museum of Houston (CMH) took over operating management of YIS. Under their management, YIS grew to an average annual participation rate of  over 2,000 participants. 


In 2015, CMH handed YIS back to me. We are proud to state that we have 100% renewal rate on participating schools and are up to a 2,500 student participant level.

The $5,000 will be used to pay for operating expenses for the program. We still owe $900.00 in rent to U of H for last May's finals. the balance will be used for rent for next year, and expanding our web presence. see: www.younginventorsshowcase.org.
