Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

In just one month, I will be responsible for my very own classroom! I can't wait to decorate and meet my students and their families. One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework. Thank you so much in advance for supporting me and my students at the beginning of this exciting journey.

PledgeCents allows me to keep whatever I raise, so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my first group of students, and a classroom community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide for the students of my very first classroom:

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

Fundraiser Updates (1)

Many Thanks!

June 18, 2017

I am overwhelmed at the generosity of those who have donated to my classroom for the upcoming year! Within 24 hours of me publicizing my page, I already hit my fundraising goal, and I want to thank you so much for your contributions. I have been placed at a school in east Indianapolis, and I have already began planning what lesson and materials I will need to get the year started off in the right direction. Having these donations has certainly lifted a weight off my shoulders.

To be transparent, if I were to receive donations above and beyond my original goal, I would use the money to purchase the following materials for our classroom:

  • Binder clips
  • Wireless presenter remote for Powerpoint
  • Desk caddies / containers for desk items
  • Clipboards
  • Pocket charts
  • Folders
  • Nametags
  • Construction paper
  • Individual whiteboards for students
  • Class snacks

Thank you all, and stay tuned for more updates.

With gratitude,

Ms. Simon

So happy for your students that they will have such a wonderful teacher! I had so many teachers during school that left a lasting impact on me, and I know that your students will feel that way about you.

About the Creator

I am excited to continue my work as 5th grade teacher at Avondale Meadows Academy (AMA) for the next year. AMA is a public charter school located in one of Indianapolis’ most under served communities. Established in 2006, AMA is a tuition-free, K-5 school founded on the Core Knowledge curriculum and is open to all students. I am so excited to continue in the work to provide the strongest possible preparation for our students’ success in Indianapolis’ most demanding, college-preparatory middle and high schools.
