Teach me to Read! with the Leveled Literacy Intervention System.

With these funds, our school will purchase a Leveled Literacy Intervention System that will assist me, as the Reading Interventionist, to improve the reading skills of many struggling readers at my school. The prescribed interventions in this system target young readers who are having difficulty grasping the fundamental reading concepts such as sounding out words. This system will assist me with identifying specific problem areas and with the specialized lessons, will provide me the opportunity to do small group instruction designed specifically for students. Because of this intervention system, students will significantly improve their reading abilities which will prevent reading difficulties as they progress through school.

Our school is located in one of the most impoverished areas in Jacksonville, Florida. Even though our parents are aware of their child’s reading difficulties, they simply cannot afford a private tutor. For many families in the area, our school is the sole educational resource. The Leveled Literacy Intervention System will not only be a terrific resource for our school, its use will also greatly impact the surrounding community through our after school and summer programs.
