The Description
With these funds I will attend a hands-on course is designed specifically for coaches to learn about adaptive archery. This course will be led by MJ Rogers, the US Paralympic Coach and Cindy Poorman, Physical Therapist & USA Para Archery Classifier. Information covered in this training includes instructor requirements and archer evaluations, disability classification, logging challenges and action planning, class and equipment management, implementation strategies, working with youth, adults and veterans, and understanding the Paralympic path.
There is not currently anyone coaching archery students in Austin who has a background in para archery. As the Austin archery community grows, ensuring that all students, including those with disabilities, have equitable access to instruction is becoming increasingly important. Archery is currently being taught in many schools in Austin from elementary through high school. Archery is one of the most adaptive sports but coaches need the tools effectively support diverse learners.
Unfortunately, specialized training in para archery is extremely rare. In my seven years as a coach, this is the first opportunity of its kind that has been available and it may not come around again soon.
With your support, I will attend this specialized training and bring those skills back to our community. Not only will this enhance the experience for the students I directly coach, but I will also share these insights with other area coaches—multiplying the impact and helping to build a more inclusive archery community throughout Austin.
Back Up Plan
If we do not reach our goal I have two alternative options. If we are close, I will cover the additional expenses myself as I believe this is an incredible opportunity. If I am not close enough to the goal that I can cover remaining expenses, I will set the money aside to purchase adaptive equipment when needed. I am aware of some adaptive tools such as a bow stand for archers lacking upper body strength, flags to make the range accessible for people with hearing loss, and special tactile stands for visually impaired archers to use.

I have registered for the training thanks to all the support I have already received. I am so thankful for the outpouring of support. I personally know many of the supporters and know that making archery available to everyone is something important to you all and I know you see the value of being in the archery community. I am also grateful for support from many of you who I do not know. Thank you for putting trust in me to use your funds to make archery accessible to people who are often left behind, especially in regards to sporting activities.
Feeling overwhelmed with support
July 20, 2025
I am deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to support this endeavor. Many of you are parents of the archers I have the privilege of coaching, and your generosity is yet another reminder of the truly extraordinary community we share. I am so proud and honored to be part of this journey with all of you.
Our belief that “archery is for everyone” is more than just a phrase—it is the very foundation of what we have built together. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your unwavering support, your kindness, and your trust.
