Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

Hi friends, family, and supporters! I am diving into my second year as an educator. I've already learned so much about child development, best practices, and community involvement. I'm looking forward to the challenges and rewards of this upcoming year!

On August 13th, I will welcome thirty or so kindergarteners to my Butterfly Classroom! I've chosen a butterfly theme to represent the metamorphoses that my students will undergo as they blossom into curious and competent learners.

I believe that learning is an interactive process that centers on the student. In order for me to guide my students in their learning process, I will need to provide the necessary materials and learning manipulatives for them to explore and thrive. To this end, I am asking for your help. Please help me to fund my more expensive supplies, manipulatives, books, and learning centers so that my Kindergarteners can grow into the magnificent butterflies that I know they can be! We appreciate any and all contributions. Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies. Thank you so much in advance! Here is a complete list of materials that your generous investment will help provide:

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

Arielle, Kathy and I are both delighted to support the learning of your kindergarteners! As one who taught kindergarten and pre-K children for three decades (and other elementary grades and day care before that), Kathy knows many of the challenges you'll face and the crucial importance of the work. (She just instructed me to pass on a fist bump from her to you!) My knowledge of kindergarten teaching is second-hand, through Kathy, except for being the beneficiary of it more than sixty years ago. But after four decades of teaching high school age students, I recognize the terrific importance of a child's early experience of school, for good or ill. How fortunate those kids in your class will be to have you as their teacher! With great pride in my old advisee and much love...

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America.
