Building The Foundation:Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

With these funds I will make sure that my students have a learning environment that is safe, comfortable and one that allows my diverse group of 2nd graders to reach their full potential

As I enter into my 2nd year with Teach For America, at a new school in a new region, I want to ensure that my students have all of the materials they need to succeed. In just a few short weeks I will be welcoming my students into their new classroom and before that date I will be responsible for decorating my new room and purchasing all the necessary supplies.

One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is the lack of necessary materials that are needed daily. I never want that to be a worry for my children, and in addition to what is purely necessary, I feel they deserve a classroom that is colorful, welcoming, and one that promotes a learning environment.

My goal as an educator is to eliminate any barrier to learning and to foster a creative space for my 2nd graders to flourish and grow!

Every single penny raised will go towards creating this space, and any amount contributed will make a difference! I want to make a great impression and leave a lasting impact on my first group of students in this new school to let them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far, and get us all on the right track!

Here are a list of materials that your generous investment will help provide for my students:

  • Pencils
  • Pencil Sharpener
  • White Boards
  • Notebooks
  • Crayons
  • Glue Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Erasers
  • Reading Books
  • Desk Tags
  • Alternate Seating
  • Materials for Centers (puzzles, flash cards, etc.)
  • Reading Corner Cushions
  • Index Cards
  • Rulers
  • Math Manipulatives (place value charts, cubes, counters)
  • Reading Phones
  • Paper Towels
  • Tissues
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Stickers
  • Chart paper
  • Clorox Wipes
  • Dry Erase Markers
  • Storage
  • Tape

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. After serving my first year with Teach for America in the state of Delaware, I am now looking forward to entering my second year in the DC region. I am looking forward to meeting my incredible students and for the year to come!
