The Description

With these funds I will...continue the quest for 1:1 technology for my students. Our high poverty district has not been able to supply the technology that we need so as they say, it takes a village to educate a child. We are reaching out far and wide to raise funds for one laptop at a time. The students of the 21st century are very well-versed in learning on technology, so I want to put in their hands what will inspire them to learn. Our district has made available numerous digital curriculums that I would love to get more students participating in on a daily basis. Thank you for any assistance in reaching this dream for my students.

For this cause I am looking at an Acer Chromebook for $249. The school district also asks us to provide a Chromebook management license to accompany the laptop which is $35. This laptop will allow another student in my classroom to go on such digital learning sites as Storia, CoreClicks, and Sumdog. Storia is a site that I can assign books and quizzes individually to each student. Many of the books have the option where the student can have them read to them if needed. CoreClicks has nonfiction options with articles from around the world. Each student on their own laptop could dive into engaging interactive articles. Nonfiction is not normally a first choice with second graders, but this site changes that. Sumdog is a math game site that the students ask to be on every day! The more math games and problems the students solve, the more coins they earn. They can use the coins to furnish a house and dress their avatar.

Learning is certainly different from when I grew up and it is important that I teach my students not how I learned but how they thrive with the technology available. In their future jobs they will need to be confident and proficient tech users; that's the end goal!

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will curriculum to be used on the laptops we do have such as Flocabulary, Speakaboos, or Big Universe.
