The Description

With these funds I will...

Purchase and setup several Aqua-sprouts Garden ($300/each) that are designed to bring the revolutionary principles of aquaponic farming into the classroom because we at LWHS believe aquaponics offers something to benefit everyone. By combining fish keeping and hydroponic gardening, aquaponics does things that neither can do alone, dramatically reducing waste and maintenance. By circulating the water from your aquarium through the Garden’s bed, the Aqua Sprouts Garden recycles fish waste to provide vital nutrients for growing plants, leaving the water clean and clear without the need for additional filters or frequent water changes.

The Garden is ideal not only for growing fresh herbs and plants, but also for teaching. The garden is ideal for demonstrating a variety of concepts in chemistry, biology, and ecology. It’s an especially great tool for keeping kids engaged, a living model ecosystem that they can interact with as they watch the transformation of the energy in fish food into waste, plants, and ultimately herbs, greens, and even fruits for them to enjoy.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase one unit as a demo to instruct the student in the world of Aquaponics.
