Day One Readiness

The Description

With these funds I will be able to provide age appropriate resources for the children I am directly teaching.  I currently have materials for elementary and middle school aged children, but this is not age appropriate for the new school I am moving to.  I am hoping I can make my space warm, loving, and age appropriate for my kids so they can receive an education in a space that makes them feel as if they belong.

At my new school I am not only limited on paper, but also other resources that my children might need.  I want to ensure all children have basics within school, such as pencil and paper, but also have the opportunity to have flexible seating and comfort lighting from the fluorescent lighting.  Small investments now within the children will help our children out in their overall future.

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will purchase my own supplies from various places within Memphis and use the resources I currently have.  I am wanting to make the experience age appropriate for the children that i will be serving.

We are over a quarter of the way there! My children are so thankful they have support from individuals inside and outside of their communities. I cannot wait to purchase supplies for my new kiddos!

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America.
