Chromebooks for Science

Verified Non-Profit
$20
$6,000 goal

The Description
With these funds I will purchase 18 chromebooks so that my science students can best utilize Google Apps for Education at their workstations in their study of science. Also, I will purchase a secure storage and charging cart to ensure the protection of the chromebooks. This directly benefits the students as it will allow them to collaboratively work on projects and activities while using technology to observe science concepts and conduct research. Lastly, as Scientific American declared, "... not only is Minecraft immersive and creative, but it is an excellent platform for making almost any subject area more engaging.” Thus, I would like to introduce it into the educational environment at my school to foster creativity, collaboration, exploration and alternate ways of demonstrating learning for my students.
My students are deserving of these resources as they have so very little. We are a high poverty school, with most receiving free/reduced lunches. Our students simply do not have the resources from home, and our district struggles to provide funding for such initiatives in the classroom. Thus, instructional staff advocate for our students and try to find funding on our own. My aim is to help my students and to instill in them a love for science.
The resources we intend to purchase are:
- 18 Haier Chromebook 11 HR-116R - 11.6-Inch Laptop (Black) @ $149.00 each - $2,682.00 http://amzn.com/B00V3DYVLM
- 1 Gather'Round Charging Cart for 32 Chromebooks @ $1,495.00 each. http://goo.gl/4tYckG
- The following software from MinecraftEdu.com
- 1 MinecraftEdu Server Software @ $41.00
- 25 MinecraftEdu User Licenses @14.00 each - $350.00
I have added additional monies for any shipping/handling costs, taxes and the possibility that a more expensive chromebook may need to be purchased if the Haier is sold out. If funded completely and the above supplies are purchased, any remaining funds will be used towards supplies for the classroom, such as laser toner, poster paper, pens and pencils, and other science materials.
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as many of the chromebooks as possible within the available funds. My foremost goal is to provide my students with as many chromebooks up to 18, which is the average number of students in my classes.
