The Description

At Aurora Collegiate Academy, we believe that literacy paves the way for academic success to and through college. With that driving our vision, our goal is for our scholars to grow two years in reading during one academic year. In order to achieve this goal scholars need access to a variety of books in a variety of settings. One of the ways we support literacy instruction is through Guided Reading Groups. In these small groups, scholars work with teachers to grow their reading abilities through direct instruction in fluency and comprehension strategies. In order to do this most effectively, teachers need access to high-quality books that are aligned to the skills they are teaching.

The books selected for this cause were selected based on the Common Core Standards. Additionally, there are two book selections for each grade level of scholars.

Check out the image in our pictures above for the great fiction and non-fiction books selected for each grade level and how the money raised will directly be allocated to these books!

Back Up Plan

If our goal is not met, we will purchase as many guided reading books as possible with the funds we have raised.

About the Creator

I came to Memphis as a 2013 Teach for America Corps Member. I taught first grade and second grade during my first two years at Aurora Collegiate Academy. This year, I transitioned into a new role at Aurora as the Curriculum and Instructional Fellow. This is a new position at our school and I am excited to support our students and teachers as we continue to grow.
