Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

After completing Teach for America’s - 2018 Delta Institute I will be responsible for my very own classroom! I can't wait to decorate and meet my students and their families. One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework. Thank you so much in advance for supporting me and my students at the beginning of this exciting journey.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my first group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide for the students of my very first classroom:

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

Stretch Goal #2!!!

June 13, 2018

First off a huge thank you to everyone who donated and/or shared this page!

I am so grateful for every single one of you, and cannot thank you enough for the impact that you have on my kids.

I have decided to move my goal to $1200 so that each child can get to keep their book at the end of the school year, I can make sure to keep school supplies and student's "tool kit" stocked, annnnnd we will have the ability to have a fully stocked classroom library!

Without you all this would not be possible, so thank you from the bottom of my heart! Let's keep this momentum going!

Stretch Goal!

June 12, 2018

Wow Everyone! I am blown away by people's support and generosity!

I have decided to set a stretch goal so that I can buy each child a few more things to be fully prepared for the 6th Grade. With your help I would like to set my stretch goal to $800.

With this money I can buy the students their own "tool kit" for success in the classroom, as well as give them their very own copy of our novel for the year-  Island of the Blue Dolphins, and buy copies of Shel Silverstein's Where the Sidewalk Ends for our classroom library! Your generosity is amazing, and I really believe we can meet this stretch goal, and really impact these kids lives!

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America.
