Ensuring Equity through Classroom Environment

The Description

Hi, everyone! Before I ask for donations and share my hopes for this fundraiser, I think it is important for me to share my story and why I have decided to do this work. For those that don't know, I grew up in inner-city Houston and attended public schools in HISD. Through my educational experiences in HISD and at Texas A&M, where I received my BA in English, I learned that the education of students from low-income communities is constantly put on the back burner. Our education has/ is not viewed as a priority to the rich and powerful law makers of the USA, and that does not sit well with me. Right now, America is not providing ALL students will the opportunity to succeed, to thrive, and to pursue their dreams because, unfortunately, where you are born has a huge impact on the opportunities that are available to you. To expand, 1 in 3 students from low income communities are expected to graduate from high school, and only 9% of this very small percentage are expected to graduate from college. This clearly shows that, in this country, opportunity is not a universal right, and I refuse to let the zip codes of my students be their destiny. I will empower my students to unapologetically pursue their passions because that's what they deserve. However, I cannot do this alone. I need your help.

I have started this fundraiser because I strongly believe that resources and a welcoming classroom environment are foundational components to opportunity. With these funds, I will purchase supplies, materials, and classroom decorations to ensure that all my students have the opportunity to thrive in and outside of my classroom. Thank you for your willingness to help my students and I at the start of this journey. Any amount helps!

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal, I will prioritize essential items, such as classroom journals and writing utensils, as they are the most important in ensuring student success.
