The Description

Your generous support of YIAA and The Young Inventor’s Showcase will help to support this innovative programming opportunity for Kindergarten through Middle School students.  The funds generated will help to provide the following:

  • Provides funds to assist the inventor with the patenting process.
  • Enables outreach to schools, teachers, and professional organizations to encourage participation in a STEAM exploration.
  • Promotes and sustains a global engagement in the program. Last year's winner of the "Cane Mate" was from Singapore. This experience influenced the family greatly. Currently, the young inventor and his family are manufacturing the invention for those who are in need.
  • Assists the socioeconomically disadvantaged children with the supplies, materials, and resources to create their invention and participate in the competition.
  • Supports the place winning inventors with annual scholarships to encourage their entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Helps to defer the fees incurred from organizing, promotional material, consumable resources and facilitating the programs throughout the Houston and surrounding areas.

Long Term Goals of YIAA:

1. To provide opportunities for students to engage in the inventing process and forensics by participating in school workshops, experiential/hands-on   presentations, after-school enrichment and a summer programs that work with the University of Houston and Rice- STEMS program.

2. To research, design, implement, and evaluate a curriculum that provides the educators with the tools necessary for successful execution and product results.

3. To improve the technology components of the program:
* 30 iPads - both for judges scoring device and for blended classroom learning opportunities
* Develop an app that can be utilized as a means of blended learning for the classrooms, software access, and access to YIS inventor's resource files
* Generate a software program that will promote an efficient application process, registration for programs, and maintain a volunteer/participant data base.

4. In conjunction with YIAA & HIA, to expand the reach of the program and educate the school districts, teachers, parents, businesses, and professionals regarding the opportunity, implementation, and product development.

5. To provide workshops, seminars, promotional events, and exhibits for the community to further educate & train professionals about YIAA, YIS, and HIA.

6. To implement all aspects of public relations: social media, print material, promotional items.http://www.younginventorsshowcase.org/Home.htm

About the Creator

As a high energy and effective leader in education, my diverse expertise in development, marketing, public relations and advancement has provided me with the opportunity to foster growth for YIAA & The Young Inventor's Showcase. I am passionate about improving the lives of our youth and cultivating a YIAA's vision to expand it's reaches in our community. This year Greg Micek, Founder of YIAA, asked me to help organize this year's Young Inventor's Showcase. Needless to say, I was excited and highly motivated to take it under my wing and make it extra special. Over the last few years I have had the opportunity to facilitate this event in several schools, so I am well versed in the logistics to make it run efficiently and generate fun for the participants. The Young Inventor's Showcase is an annual event for Elementary through Middle School students that is sponsored by YIAA. Its goal is to inspire young minds and their imagination. The 27th Annual Young Inventor’s Showcase will be taking place on Saturday, May 30th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Bauer College of Business on the campus of The University of Houston. In preparation for this event over 2500 students from Kindergarten through Eighth grade participated in local "Invention Conventions" hosted by their schools. This year, 100 selected students will be showcasing their creativity, enthusiasm, and their innovative inventions to compete for one scholarship to help fund the patenting process. We have recruited volunteers in the engineering, technology, science, fine arts, and math fields to assist us with this competition. This event boldly demonstrates the innovative thinking and creative ideas of our young children. In order to generate and cultivate the positive effects that our program has on children we need your support. We look forward to your support of our Young Inventors!
