Team Paws is raising funds to put an asphalt track on our school's playground.

This is also a question I have asked the students on Team Paws before they committed to becoming members of the year-long service team.  Team Paws consists of 43 students in grades 2nd-5th who have vowed to make their marks on the world through volunteerism.  Our goal is to spread kindness in all that we do.  

Team Paws also brings therapy dogs into our school bi-weekly to listen to students read.  When a child is reading to a dog, he is not worried about being a perfect reader because a dog will not correct him.  In time, his fluency, accuracy, comprehension, and verbal expression will improve.  

Also, Team Paws does many things to help our community, fellow students, and animals.  The students on Team Paws spend their own time working towards causes that directly benefit others.  These experiences teach them many valuable life lessons.  They are learning the importance of empathy, kindness, and respect.  They are also learning to compromise, collaborate, and think critically and creatively as they work together to solve real-world problems.

 A few of our recent causes have included a visit to a home for the elderly, a slipper drive for homeless and hospitalized children, the creation of literacy care packages for needy children in our area, a fundraiser for abused animals, and the creation of a Free Little Library on our school's playground.   

Our next cause involves supporting fellow Mackensen students and families with the construction of an asphalt track on our school's playground.  This track is for everyone, and it will allow students, staff, families, and community members to focus on staying healthy.  

The construction of this track will open many doors for the amazing students of Mackensen.  It will be used daily during Phyiscal Education classes and recesses. It will also be used for special activities such as field day, to promote Girls On the Run, Dog Walk fundraisers for abused animals, and so much more.
