The Description

I am raising money to buy 30 new Advanced Placement Spanish Language books ($40/book) for my AP Spanish students. The College board changed the test for 2014 and we do not have the books which prepare the students for this test. These books were available to schools in July 2013 which did not give us time to review them. In addition, our school has had a budget crisis this year and is not able to buy new textbooks. It is SO IMPORTANT to obtain these funds so that my students will be able to pass the Advanced Placement Spanish test on May 6, 2014. These students are at risk students who need these credits to help them graduate from high school. By participating in a high school credit class, they are able to see that they are capable of much much more! Several students are recent immigrants and it is very important for them to receive these credits as high school for them will be very challenging. We are very grateful for every contribution made towards our cause! Gracias :)

Back Up Plan

If I don’t meet my goal, I will use the raised funds for Spanish novels which we use to encourage independent reading. We want all students to become voracious readers.

About the Creator

I attended College of the Holy Cross for my undergraduate degree and received my M.A. in Spanish Literature at the University of Houston. I have taught for 20 years to share my passion with my students. Spanish is part of my daily life. After studying in Spain during my junior year abroad, I decided I wanted to help others learn Spanish so that they too could travel to foreign countries and speak to individuals in the United States who were not able to speak English. In addition to teaching those beginners, I also work with Native Speakers to encourage them to maintain their native language and to see that it is a gift to speak two languages in a large city like Houston. Globalization has changed our world and today speaking one language is simply not enough. All students should be encouraged to speak at least one additional language. I hope my students leave my class with a more open mind not only about foreign languages but also different cultures.
