With these funds I will...purchase Personalized Large Non-woven Bright Color Tote Bags.  Three PreK classrooms will use these bags.  Each classroom will have their own personalized bags.  Our proposal has two objectives.  First, we want our students to love to read.  Our second objective is to involve parents and other family members in reading to their children. Our project proposal is for three classrooms.  We want to purchase bags for our students to bring home a book daily. Research clearly indicates that students who read or are read to increase their vocabulary and become more fluent readers.  Through this program we are hoping to foster better relationships both between children and families and between families and school. We know that parental involvement is one of the primary indicators of student success.  Kids whose parents help them learn to read score 10 points higher on standardized reading tests. We currently have books in English we want to send home. We have been awarded a grant from our local chamber of commerce to purchase books written in Spanish.  However, we need a system to send them home so that they are not lost in a backpack.  These bags are brightly colored and durable.  We will purchase these bags through Oriental Trading. http://www.orientaltrading.com/web/browse/processProductsCatalog?sku=47/978.
