Starting A Foundation: Ms. King's Class
$380
$530 goal

The Description
On August 13th I will begin teaching my accelerated class of 5th graded students who identify as gifted and talented. Being a first year teacher brings challenges on its own, one of them being that I will start building my classroom supplies from scratch. These funds will help me attain the resources I need to teach and challenge my students in a way that will lead to significant academic growth. I am so excited to not only see their growth academically, but in their courage and confidence as they face each day.
That being said, 64% of my students are considered "economically disadvantaged." I believe that school supplies should not be a burden that falls on my students. On average, teachers spend $500+ on school supplies ANNUALLY, and this number only goes up for teachers in economically disadvantaged areas. http://time.com/money/4392319/teachers-buying-school-supplies/
With these funds, I will be able to help my students start each day prepared with folders, pencils, binders, etc. I will be able to purchase books for a rich classroom library that gives each student the opportunity to read a book that is suited to their reading level and interests. I will be able to purchase different resources to give a variety of techniques for learning that fits their individual learning style.
100% of donations will go directly to my students and their classroom. Any amount will make a difference! Thank you for your support alongside the national fight for educational equity.
Back Up Plan
If we do not reach our goal, I will continue looking for donations and other resources to help my classroom thrive, or I will pay out of pocket to ensure my students have what they need to succeed.
