The Description

With these funds I will head to New York to revel in the teachings of Lucy Calkins at her reading and writing workshop at Columbia University. These funds will pay for the entrance fees and travel to the workshop. From this professional development, the teachers will be able to better implement the Writing Workshop curriculum. This curriculum effectively teaches students the art of writing in many genres including narrative story-telling, persuasive and informational research. We will guide the development of the student's writing and reading skills through this workshop model. This workshop is particularly beneficial to reach the needs of all students and their learning differences.

Teachers who attend this workshop will also be able to bring this back to our school site where the Writing Workshop curriculum has recently been implemented.  Therefore, not only will our students benefit, but we will be able to share our gained knowledge with the rest of the teachers at our school.  I will be attending the workshop the week of August 1st - 5th, so it will be fresh in my mind when I bring it back to our site!

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will still be attending the workshop, but every donation is greatly appreciated! :)

Hi Ms. Distler,
We wanted to give a gift for Ms. Cohen but hers is fulfilled so we are giving to you. Either way, Grattan kids will benefit. Have a great experience!
