With these funds I will...
As an Educator I strive to provide my 4th grade Harvard scholars with a well-rounded, innovative, and engaging educational experiences. I challenge them through experiences that strengthens their critical thinking, encourages them to explore new limits, and to innovate new solutions. A big part of their education is ART because I strongly believe that through the art scholars are able to not only express themselves, they are able to explore, create, and influence our future.
William Bennett, Former US Secretary of Education once said, "The arts are an essential element of education, just like reading, writing, and arithmetic ... music, dance, painting, and theater are all keys that unlock profound human understanding and accomplishment." I look for various opportunities to allow my students to explore through different art mediums, from songs to dances, plaster-mask making to sugar skull decorating; questioning and exploring how we can project our ideas through our master pieces.
Most of my scholars have never had the opportunity to paint in a canvas, to explore with oil paints, and to challenge their artistic skills. Your donation will provide them with the experience of painting just like real artist do. It will allow them to have a master piece that will remind them of their experiences in Elementary School. All money will be used to buy canvas, paint, and paint brushes. All final pieces will be sent home with the scholars on their graduation day (June 2015).

About the Creator
I am a 4th grade teacher at KIPP Empower Academy in Los Angeles, CA. As an educator, I am committed to empowering my scholars through a vigorous, interactive, and transformative learning experiences that fosters their natural curiosity and love for learning. I received my B.A. in Liberal Studies and a Masters Degree with an emphasis in Dual Language Development from Cal State Long Beach. I recently graduated from the University of California Los Angeles with a second Masters in Education focused on Principal Leadership. I worked for New City Public Schools as the lead middle school (6th-8th) teacher. I worked for the Sandra Cisneros Learning Academy (a Camino Nuevo Charter School) as the 7th and 8th grade math teacher, and last school year I worked for the UCLA Lab School as a 3rd/4th grade Bilingual Demonstration Teacher. I am committed to strengthening my scholars’ academic self-esteem, and instilling a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom walls.
