The Description

With these funds I will...

continue to encourage a love of books, which is a great way to prepare my scholars for their future environment.

The more books my scholars read, the faster their vocabulary is expanded. Books help them to learn new words and new ways of using the words that they already know.

Reading books regularly stimulates imagination, accelerates emotional development and fosters natural curiosity.

Scholars can quickly learn to visualize the scenarios mentioned in the stories by reading the text alone.

As scholars read different books, their knowledge on various subjects increases. This can help them become better students in school.

Reading books also improves their attention span.

Developing the habit of reading regularly from an early age helps scholars cope better with the rigors of academic education.

Our 3rd grade classes (105 scholars) need level P, Q, R, and S books.

So many of my scholars are reading at a 4th grade level but we don't have enough of these books to go around!

These sets would be and awesome addition to our KEA 3rd grade scholars:

4 sets of Leveled Books (approx $70 a set)

4 sets of Chapter Books (approx $70 a set)

Back Up Plan

If I don't meet my goal I will purchase less books for my scholars.

About the Creator

I am a 3rd Grade Writing teacher at KEA. For the past four years I worked with ICEF, another charter organization, where I taught 3rd and 4th grade. I have experience with teaching all elementary grade levels except for Kindergarten. I have been teaching for thirteen years and began my journey teaching with LAUSD for seven years. After teaching at the district, I began teaching at CLAS where I learned to teach from a culturally and responsive pedagogy for two years.

I attended Cal State University of Los Angeles where I received my B.A in Child Development, and later completed my Masters in Education and Administrative Credential from Cal State University of Northridge. I have three sons and a wonderful husband. I enjoy shopping, Bath N’ Body Works, chocolate, and to have fun, not only with my family, but my scholars too. I am extremely happy to be a part of KEA.
