My First Classroom!

The Description

Hello everyone!

Thank you for being here on this page. During my training program at the Philly institute, I have been teaching eighteen African American students at a summer school who are going into 8th grade this fall. I had never really understood what institutionalized racism looks like in reality before I stepped into my first classroom. Watching my smart and capable students consistently perform a few levels below their grade level has helped me see the deep and lasting roots + consequences of racism in America. Anyway--  the main point is--  the school I will teaching at will probably not have enough of anything I am gonna need to help my students have a quality classroom experience. I don't know exactly what the expenses will look like but from the past teachers, I have learned that they add up fast. So, I just want a little help! If you are interested in helping me set up my own first classroom, please donate to my fund. Thanks!

With these funds, I will buy classroom supplies such as folders, pencils, papers/notebooks, whiteboard markers (and mini whiteboards), chart papers, sharpies, sticky notes, kleenex, books, materials for math games/activities, etc. I may also buy treats for merit systems!

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will purchase the must-needed items like pencils and notebooks.

About the Creator

I am a graduate from Brigham Young University. I just moved to Baltimore to teach at a Title I middle school which means it is generally under-resourced, under-funded, and serves a majority low-income students. I love working with young minds and I am so excited to be a MS teacher for the next two years!
