Building Ms. A's First Classroom!

The Description

This summer, I completed Teach for America's Institute and am now certified and excited to be teaching and leading in my own classroom! The first day of school is only ten days away, and I am starting out with VERY few supplies, and about 5 books. I will be teaching 2nd grade English Language Arts at Lenora B. Smith elementary school in Liberty City, Miami, Florida. Given that I am an ELA teacher, it is ESPECIALLY important for me to be able to build a successful classroom library with diverse books, and have plenty of writing materials. This is why I need your help!

One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. This is due to an inequitable system and society. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework. Thank you so much in advance for supporting me and my students at the beginning of this exciting journey.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my first group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track.

I will also link my Wal-Mart registry here if you would like to purchase a specific item for my students and their new classroom/home.

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our total goal, I will still put all of the money raised towards purchasing classroom materials. I will continue to be smart with money for the classroom by looking for bookshelves, flexible seating, and supplies from Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, GoodWill, etc... I want to ensure that every dollar is spent wisely and that the money stretches as far as it possibly can while still providing students the clean, nurturing, calming learning environment that they deserve.
