Ozobot - Mini Codable Robot

The Description

With these funds I will purchase 6 sets of the dual pack of Ozobots, they run around $60 a piece.  An Ozobot is tiny tinker robot and is slightly over an inch in size, about the size of a goalball. Students will create a different landscapes of adventures, games and coding with Ozobot Bit. Ozobots opens the door of computer science, STEM education, robotics and coding. These mini robots will be used in our STEM class to teach coding skills and introduction to robotics.  Students will be learning to code and program these mini robots as well as design tracks to compete with other student Ozobots teams.  Ozobot Bit’s has the ability to learn your programs. OzoBlockly - a block-based visual editor - offers five step up modes from Novice to Master.  When the Ozobots are not in use in the STEM class they will be put in the Maker area of our library for other students to explore coding and robotics.

Computing and computer technology are part of just about everything that touches our lives from the cars we drive, to the movies we watch, to the ways businesses and governments deal with us. Understanding different dimensions of computing is part of the necessary skill set for an educated person in the 21st century.  Using Ozobots and having students learn to program them will give the a better understanding why things work the way they do.  They will also develop problem solving skills that will carry over to high school and hopefully college and their career.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as many Ozobots as I can.  They run about $60 per Ozobot.  I will also purchase Circuit Scribe electron ink to be used in our STEM class. The ink costs about $20 a pen.
