My Champion Scholars come from a small community in Miami predominately populated by Haitians. Labeled as a Title 1 school where 98% of our students are on free and reduced lunch, we were able to defeat all odds and leap from an F school to a C school in a matter of a year. My Champion Scholars are in the third grade, a critical year in passing the newly established state-wide FSA exam. As a class, we have established goals, that we will pass the FSA with a proficient mark, giving us the opportunity to compete with our higher income peers at other schools. We also hope to leave fourth grade reading above a fourth grade reading level and if we are behind, to grow at least 1.5 reading levels. We know this is a lot but we also know that we are capable and are determined to do it. 

With these funds I will be able to purchase a class set of the book "Wonder". This book will expose my students not only to rich literature, but will also helps my students understand what it is like to be different, to experience bullying, and to persevere.
