The Description

As a former collegiate athlete and coach at one of the top universities in the nation, a wife of a former professional athlete who suffered a career ending injury while playing on the field, and a mother of two student athletes I realized that we are apart of a huge industry that does not teach its apprentices about its many facets of operation. From athletic administration, coaching, sports media, sports medicine and many more, these professions have not been introduced to the young athlete, not until now!  For the past four years the founding team of Legacy the School of Sport Sciences and industry experts (i.e. Herman Memorial, Texas A&M University, NRG Center, Houston Astros, Sportin’ the Grades, INTV Network, Legends Sports Complex, etc.) have been working towards the development of the first school in Texas that concentrates on the business within athletics. We will teach student athletes that there are many professions in athletics other then just being a player on the court.

The concept behind Legacy will set itself apart from other schools and districts due to the curriculum and its exposure of four athletic career paths (athletic administration, coaching. sports media, sports medicine). These paths will be developed in partnership with higher education institutions and industry experts. In addition, Legacy will provide an Early College High School Program that is designed to provide students an opportunity to earn either an associate degree from an Institution of Higher Education (IHE) or up to 60 college credit hours paired with a high school diploma. Our approach to the educational program will include comprehensive field lessons (on-campus site visits) and activity-based investigations, which will encourage students to think creatively, develop their own problem-solving strategies, and work cooperatively.

To offer this great opportunity to our students, we will need your help.  To deliver exceptional classroom participation each of our programs on campus have an itemized dollar amount.  Currently, we are seeking assistance to develop the Sports Media department.  Below is a list of equipment that we deem to be the ideal sports media production room. We are seeking your assistance in making this happen. Please help us Build A Legacy with A Lifestyle in Mind!

About the Creator

As a former player and women's basketball coach for Texas A&M University I learned that student athletes are not special they are just different. As a wife of a former professional athlete I learned that the business within athletics is complex and if one is not knowledgeable of the industry they can easily loose their identity and rely heavily on the sport to define their existence. As a mother of two student athletes I realized that my children, even though the are plenty talented, should understand the professions within the athletic industry. So when their career as a player ends they are prepared to pursue in a career within the industry that they love.
