Creating a Classroom With Impact

The Description

After critically thinking about the systems and policies that serve as barriers for success, I have decided to dedicate the next three years of my career to serving as a public school teacher in San Antonio, Texas with Teach for America. I will be teaching five-six classes of 7th and 8th grade English/Language Arts.

This decision is guided by my core belief that all students have the opportunity to set goals, achieve academic success with rigor, and develop skills grounded in critical thinking, agency, and self-actualization that can be used for college, careers, and personal growth.

The students I have the privilege to work with consistently show their potential, kindness, wit, and love for each other and their communities. in fact, they are not too different than my experiences growing up: overcoming odds, dreaming big, and challenging systems that make it difficult for their communities to thrive. There are also challenges beyond my control that prevent the classroom from reaching its full development. Learn more about some of the challenges that low-income and underrepresent students experience every day: https://www.apa.org/pi/ses/resources/publications/education. Over 90% of my students live in low-income households, and identify as hispanic. Over 30% are English Language Learners.

If you know me, you know I consistently hold those around me and myself to exceed expectations. My students are no exception. Help me provide them with the classroom tools to accomplish this, creating an environment where all of my students can have the resources and materials needed to learn in a positive classroom environment.

100% of these funds will be used to purchase materials that impact students directly. Alternatively, feel free to contact me directly with any other forms of supporting my classroom including book or supply donations, as well as college merchandise that can be used to provide information and rewards.

Here is a complete list of the essential materials needed for academic success in the classroom: These materials are used for students directly.
