To Infinity & Beyond!

The Description

When I was in elementary school, Science was one of my favorite subjects.  I loved learning about the world around me and field trips were exciting opportunities for teachers to extend my learning in a fun and memorable way.  As a 5th grade educator, now I get the opportunity to carry that legacy on with my students.

A couple of school years ago, our Science curriculum changed in the best way.  With the adoption of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Science educators had to now give students the opportunity to DO science.  Students are now learning how to think like real-world scientists and engineers.  Two of our Anchor Phenomena center around advances in space exploration.  Hence, our desire to take our students on a field trip to the Infinity Space Center in Pearlington, MS.

At the Infinity Space Center, our 5th graders would not just visit amazing exhibits that would build their knowledge of all things space related; they would get to be engineers for the day.  This space center offers an Engineering 101 Class in which students and their adult chaperones would participate in the actual engineering design process of asking, imagining, planning, create, and improving.  While there, they would also get to take a bus tour of the neighboring NASA Stennis Space Center, site of America's largest rocket engine test facility.

Doesn't this sound like an amazing opportunity for our 5th Grade scientists?  I thought you'd agree.  However, sometimes awesome field trips require more funding than is available at our school level.  That's where you come in.

By spreading our story and helping us reach our goal, funds raised would cover the following costs:

  • $3000 for Charter Buses
  • $900 for Student Entrance and Engineering Camp Fees

Please consider helping our 5th grade LES Tiger Cubs blast off into infinity and beyond!

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach our goal I will continue to seek fundraising opportunities and grants to cover the transportation costs of our field trip.  If that's covered, we would ask our students to cover their own entrance and engineering class fees.
