Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

As a teacher I am responsible for my very own classroom! I engage daily with my students and their families, and it is my responsibility to ensure that my classroom is a welcoming environment for everyone. One of the biggest challenges is making sure that all of my students have the materials they need to participate in class daily. This is especially important at the beginning of the school year, when we set the tone for how important it is for everyone to be a part of our classroom community.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the supplies needed to welcome my students back to their classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference in our classroom. As always, I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide:

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

The beginning of a new year!

August 1, 2018

As I enter year two of teaching in Baltimore City, I’ve reflected upon all the incredible things I’ve experienced thus far. My first few months teaching were definitely a shock, but through the support of family, friends, and Teach For America, I was able to overcome obstacles and truly realize the potential of education in this city. My students during the school year were able to grow on average more than 1 grade level in reading, and as a middle school we were able to construct a large community garden across the street from our school to supply fresh fruits and vegetables to the neighborhood. This summer I was blessed to teach for MERIT, an organization whose mission is to break down boundaries for students of color in healthcare. Through these experiences and countless others I’ve been inspired daily by the incredible work being done in this city. However there is still much to be done, and through your donation I’m able to get necessary supplies for my classroom for the year. I’m beyond thankful for any donation and I’m excited for the year to come!

About the Creator

As a new teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with systemic challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. Despite hardships, my students come to school everyday with a smile and a passion to better themselves and their community. However there are some hurdles for which they are unable to overcome alone. School supplies, resources, and access to opportunities are all boundaries that they face daily, and as their teacher I take every opportunity to work towards equity in these areas and beyond. After working in this city for a year, I am well aware of the potential of our scholars when given the opportunity to succeed. The work ethic, dedication, and passion for bettering their lives is unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed. Through your donation, my scholars are able to excel in the classroom and beyond.
