Playground Needed

The Description

With these funds I will...purchase items for the students to play with outside.  Our playground has a very limited amount of equipment for the children.  Playground structures cost several thousand dollars for which there is no budget.   Our playground  has as many as 60 children at one time with only 6 swings, a slide, some bikes, and an area with rubber mulch for them to play.   If we could purchase some Tonka-type trucks for the children to play with in the mulch area, with some basketball goals built for the height of young children, as well as some materials designed for the gross motor development of our students, we will have a playground that will better meet their needs.   Since we don't have a P.E. Program, our students must get their physical development from time spent on the playground.   Besides our 105 Title 1 students, the playground is also used by the Early Childhood special needs students.   We have the gifted program in our building also, so for 20 minutes everyday, the playground is used by 3rd - 5th graders.

I am one of seven Title 1 teachers in our building.  Our students are 100% at risk because their families are at the poverty level.  Our kids start as young as three years old.  Not only do we meet their academic needs, but we work on their physical development as well.  Any help we can get, will be appreciated and significant to the growth of these precious children.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase...as much as I can with what we have to work with.  Basketball goals that are the right height for small children is my number one priority.  There are many smaller, cheaper items that can be purchased also.  For example, we could purchase plastic hoops, soccer balls, balance beams, etc.
