Hi my name is Nikki and I am a wife and mother to a very special 6 year old boy who is on the autism spectrum. I am going into my 14th year of teaching in a title one public school in upstate Ny . I taught 10 years in Kindergarten and the last 4 in pre-K. For the last 2 years in have implemented inquiry based learning in my classroom . Students explore. research, investigate and study and pursue topics based on curiosity to increase their understanding of the world. It’s fascinating to see the teacher becomes the facilitator and the students the teachers. Writing, measuring, building , experimenting and using their creativity all while hitting the benchmarks they need to advance to the next grade.
