Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

After completing Teach for America’s - 2019 Philadelphia Institute I will be responsible for my very own classroom! I can't wait to decorate and meet my students and their families. One of the biggest hurdles that students in high need schools face is a lack of the necessary materials that are needed daily. It makes it infinitely more difficult for students to take part in activities and classwork when they do not have basic supplies.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the startup supplies needed to welcome my students to a classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework. Thank you so much in advance for supporting me and my students at the beginning of this exciting journey.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my first group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide for the students of my very first classroom:

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

There's Still Time To Contribute!

August 8, 2019

I have recently completed the Summer Institute for Teach For America in Philadelphia, PA.  I learned so much from so many people who were selflessly invested in my success as an English Teacher.  I still have much to learn about being an effective and influential Teacher, and I look forward to the challenge.  Teaching in Philadelphia for the summer is an experience I will always cherish.  Each day in the classroom was a privilege.  Raising the cumulative grade of my classroom by 136% in just a few weeks made my desire to educate stronger, and has me focused on what I will do for my students at West Side High School.  There's still time to contribute to making my first year in my own classroom a success story.  Please help me obtain the resources I need to create an environment for learning, and a culture for education.

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the Teach For America family, join the movement to solve education inequity in this country, and provide all students with a quality education. After 20+ years in the private sector, I am fortunate to be selected to join a Teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. Although we only have to commit two years, I have found my true purpose in life, and will continue to grow in my craft as an educator, and work as long as I can to create incremental change/growth in our educational system. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program at Temple University, while teaching summer school in Philadelphia, PA. After my Summer Institute at Temple, I will be teaching English Language Arts at West Side High School in Newark, New Jersey under the direction of the charismatic and forward thinking Principal Akbar Cook. I'm blessed to be in such a profound place and space. Please help me in my journey to create a better culture and environment of learning for my students, and provide them with the tools and resources necessary to bring out their best, and make it better.
