As part of Teach for America’s 2018 Tulsa Institute I am responsible for my very own classroom! I am teaching 20 bright, hardworking and dedicated Tulsa Public School students who have committed 80 hours of their summer to cover the full Algebra 1 curriculum.

Getting through this curriculum will be a challenge, and one of the biggest hurdles that my students face is a lack of the necessary materials. Teach for America is helping with some classroom supplies, but there is never enough! We don’t have enough graphing calculators to do our linear regression lesson and exercises. I don’t have access to software that could help my students build and reinforce the mathematical foundation some need in order to manipulate equations.

I was fortunate to attend a public high school in a high income district, and I want my students to have access to the same resources I benefited from. Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to have a lasting impact on my first group of students, and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track.
