Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

As part of Teach for America’s 2018 Tulsa Institute I am responsible for my very own classroom! I am teaching 20 bright, hardworking and dedicated Tulsa Public School students who have committed 80 hours of their summer to cover the full Algebra 1 curriculum.

Getting through this curriculum will be a challenge, and one of the biggest hurdles that my students face is a lack of the necessary materials. Teach for America is helping with some classroom supplies, but there is never enough! We don’t have enough graphing calculators to do our linear regression lesson and exercises. I don’t have access to software that could help my students build and reinforce the mathematical foundation some need in order to manipulate equations.

I was fortunate to attend a public high school in a high income district, and I want my students to have access to the same resources I benefited from. I commit to absolute transparency and accountability in the use of your investment. Please see the updates below to know what your investment is making possible.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference for my first year. I want to have a lasting impact on my first group of students, and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track.

Thank you so much for your support! I love being able to tell my students how many people are rooting for their success!

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

Algebra 1A starts next Monday!

June 21, 2018

This summer I look forward to working with students of the Tulsa Public School system and building skills in Algebra 1.

Tomorrow, Friday, June 22, my co-teachers and I will get to set up our classrooms and we will meet our students and start four weeks of teaching next Monday.

Our students will spend 4 hours every weekday in the classroom, so we would love to have the resources to make learning engaging and stimulating!

Any donation will be used to purchase classroom supplies, and we would love to practice participatory budgeting with our students to ensure the classroom resources reflect their wants and needs.

Thanks so much for your support!

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America.
