Building The Foundation: Startup Classroom Supplies

The Description

As a teacher I am responsible for my very own classroom! I engage daily with my students and their families, and it is my responsibility to ensure that my classroom is a welcoming environment for everyone. One of the biggest challenges is making sure that all of my students have the materials they need to participate in class daily. This is especially important at the beginning of the school year, when we set the tone for how important it is for everyone to be a part of our classroom community.

To get the year started off right, I will use the funds that I raise to purchase the supplies needed to welcome my students back to their classroom that is clean and stocked full with materials. This will allow me to provide the required supplies to students that otherwise would not have them. I will also purchase copy paper to ensure that I can provide my students with high quality learning materials, whether that is exit tickets, independent activities, or homework.

Every dollar I receive will be put towards classroom supplies so anything you can contribute really will make a difference in our classroom. As always, I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my group of students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide:

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal, I will purchase as many materials as possible. I will prioritize the materials that are most essential to students (pencils, paper, etc.) as they are the most important to ensuring that students can participate in daily lessons.

About the Creator

I am so excited and honored to be part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I was fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I've been in my six week summer training for Teach for America, participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities. This experience has been one of the most difficult that has pushed me to my limits in a myriad of ways, but has been an experience of amazing levels of growth and reflection that I will carry into my work the next two years and beyond. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America. I am honored to be teaching fifth grade at Treadwell Elementary School in the Berclair neighborhood of Memphis, Tennessee, a neighborhood central to the Latinx community in Memphis. Treadwell offers the ONLY dual language program in the whole state of Tennessee. I'll be teaching my kids in English AND Spanish! I am pumped to be creating this amazing bilingual learning environment for my students. This is an amazing opportunity that will truly humble and push me to be the best educator I can be for my students, many that share the same experiences I had as a child attending school on the westside of Chicago. I cannot wait to get started but need your help so we have all the tools for success! I'd be grateful for whatever contribution you can make!
