Equipping Students to Walk Through History

The Description

I teach a wide array of high schoolers at Digital Harbor High School, all with unique personalities, interests, aspirations, and backgrounds. Despite the challenges they face in every walk of life, they show up to school every day. Simple, essential things get my students excited about learning: they love discussing how issues in the past affect our world today and comparing historical characters to their own lives, they love fresh sheets of paper upon which to express themselves, and they love a bright, clean classroom space where they feel safe to grow and interact.

At the end of the day - even though the odds are stacked against their success - my students strive for more.

Many of them leave a long day of school to go to their jobs, take care of siblings or other family members, or go the extra mile during football practice. I want to give them all the support they need to be successful day in and day out, at school and as citizens and change-makers in Baltimore.

PledgeCents allows me to keep whatever I raise, so anything you can contribute really will make a difference. I want to make a great impression and a lasting impact on my students and letting them know that they have a community that supports them both near and far will definitely get us on the right track. Here is a complete list of the materials that your generous investment will help provide for the students of my classroom.

About the Creator

I am excited to be a part of the TFA family and join the movement to solve education inequity in this country and provide all students with a quality education. I'm fortunate enough to be selected from a nationwide talent applicant pool to join a teacher corps comprised of leaders who commit a minimum of two years to teach in high need public schools. This summer I will be participating in an intensive skill and knowledge development program aiming to increase student achievement as well as a comprehensive professional development program including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and content and professional learning communities specific to teaching license areas. I can't wait for my first year with Teach for America.
