Cooking with Kids

The Description

With these funds I will purchase fresh produce and measuring tools.  Over a six week period, these young chefs will taste new ingredients, use measuring tools, compare fractions, double and reduce recipes, follow directions in a recipe and serve their final meals. There are two classes each week for six weeks(elementary and middle school).  Students will learn to prepare appetizers, breakfast, lunch and dinner menus that are healthy and fun! Our nation is promoting healthy living, so it is important to start with our youth who can learn to cook for themselves and their families.  Let's stop the 'take out' and frozen meal epidemic!

After the completion of the course, students will serve samples during lunchtime for the whole student body! 

Our free and reduce lunch percentage is over 60%.  Many students qualify for our Backpack Buddy program that provides enough food for the weekend.  

Our cooking classes have been full for two years straight!  

We have four teachers volunteer  each week to assist with our young chefs who work in partners.  The biggest expensive is fresh produce for students to use in recipes.  Each class uses $50-60 each week.  There are two classes per week for six weeks.

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as much as I can for each class.  These students are familiar with box meals so it is my passion to infuse fresh ingredients to increase their tasting palettes.

About the Creator

I have been an educator for 21 years. Some of my passions are children's literature and teaching cooking class to 3-8th graders. In my spare time, I love to infuse camping, paddleboarding and soapmaking into my free time!
