The Description

With these funds I will purchase infant & toddler books in Spanish & English.

Our students range from 14-18 and many are learning English as a second language. Young women can start at our school while they are expecting & continue after their baby is born. This year, for the first time, we created a library at the school, a space that will include books & electronic resources for academics as well as pleasure reading for teenagers. We are also including a collection of multicultural & bi lingual infant & toddler books so teen moms will be able to read to the little ones.

Objectives
1. Students will learn about the importance of reading to infants to develop literacy.
2. Students will practice reading strategies & learn to selective appropriate books for infants &toddlers.

Program procedures, methods & organization
1. Students will read about child development & the importance of reading as a shared activity that builds early literacy skills. Students will create posters focusing on this information.
2. Students will work with the school librarian reviewing & selecting appropriate multicultural infant & toddler books.
3. Students will practice with a partner on reading aloud strategies. They will develop a rubric to evaluate their techniques.

Budget: Multicultural& bi lingual titles $500

Back Up Plan

If I do not meet my goal I will purchase as many infant & toddler books as possible with funds.
