The Description

With these funds I will...The materials I'm requesting will be used for breakfast for the students who miss breakfast or for students who are hungry in class. The materials will also be used as classroom treats, snacks, and given as awards. These materials will be used for breakfast and given as incentives and rewards in class. They will be given to hard-working students for completion of assignments, and as regular every day snacks for the classroom. This will be a nice surprise and deserving treat for those who show excellence in class.  Recognizing students when they complete an assignment or move up a reading level, or make a A on a test is so important to their self-esteem. It gives them extra encouragement and the push to do even better with their assignment next time. It gives them a sense of accomplishment and helps lead to further academic success. It gives them something to look forward to and something that they can take home to show their parents how they have progressed and developed over the school year. I'm working hard to ensure that in two years 90% of my students will be reading on grade level an have a chance to develop the skills that they need to catch up to their general education peers. By providing these students with the individualized learning that they need, they will build their confidence levels, drastically closing the gap between them and their regular-education classmates. My students will be so excited with the funding of this project because they go through so much on a day to day basis just trying to keep up with the other students in their grade level.

About the Creator

I am an EC teacher who works at a high risk Project Lift School that has mostly minorities and ESL (English as a second language) students. My school is a pre k through 8th grade school in an urban area of North Carolina, and nearly all of our students are living in poverty. I work with a selection of first grade and middle school Special Education students in science, social studies and reading. Many of my students are below grade level readers and ESL students who have physical and cognitive disability difficulties learning complex material, vocabulary, fluency, sight word recognition, reading issues and many other learning issues. The students I work with are trying to succeed while coping with a variety of learning, speech, physical and cognitive disabilities. My students are all working at different levels when it comes to reading and comprehension. Despite all these challenges, they are here every day and working hard to be the best that they can be! I help equalize education for special needs students which build their confidence and helps students find academic success. I provide extra support in English Language Arts, science and social studies class, as well as reading.
