The Description

The majority of the money will go to fund 6th-8th-grade Post-session. The post-session helps teachers have a greater sense of the whole student by inviting students to showcase competence in areas teachers previously did not realize they had. Seeing a student excel in a new context or skill can lead teachers, and the student as well, to see new potential outside of the classroom.  Post-session helps provide another kind of curriculum: it exposing Life Academy’s historically underserved students to many new experiences they would not have otherwise. The money would go towards reserving camping spaces, workshops, and transportation. During post-session, 6th graders will be attending the Museum of Art and Digital Design where they will show off some of their math skills in a hands-on coding workshop. 6th-8th will attend an end of the year camping retreat where they will participate in community building exercises and close the year together.

I will use the remainder of the funds to attend a teacher professional development in Riverside, CA. At this professional development, I will learn from highly experienced teachers and work towards becoming a more successful math teacher and build strategies on how to properly supporting my students.

Back Up Plan

If we do not reach my goal I will only fund the 6th-grade post-session and attend the teachers' professional development.
