The Description

From Outdated to Outstanding: The Tech Lab Makeover!

My students are bright, curious, and incredibly eager to learn, but they face a digital divide that often impacts their academic growth. We are a diverse, high-need school community where our school computer lab serves as a vital gateway to the world. For many of my scholars, this lab is the only place they have access to reliable internet, typing instruction, and digital creation tools. They thrive when given hands-on learning opportunities, but our current environment is rigid, uninspiring, and cluttered. Despite these structural challenges, my students show up every day with a desire to explore technology, code, build projects, and collaborate with one another.  They tried so hard in a Donorchoose contest, but we didnt make the cut but they are resilent here at VOE!

Our current computer lab feels more like an old storage room than a modern digital media center. The workspace is cluttered with tangled cords, uncomfortable seating, and an uninspiring layout that hinders collaboration and focus. This project request is designed to completely transform our lab into a modern, student-powered learning oasis. By integrating the items requested—including ergonomic, flexible seating, cord management organization, vibrant visual anchors, and crisp new headphones—we will turn a drab room into an engaging, collaborative innovation center.

This makeover will completely change how our students interact with technology. Upgraded ergonomic supports and organized workstations mean students can focus on developing critical skills like keyboarding, coding, and academic research without physical discomfort or clutter distractions. Flexible seating options will allow our scholars to comfortably collaborate on group STEM projects or focus quietly during independent testing. By funding this makeover, you aren't just buying furniture or organization tools; you are investing in a workspace that honors our students' potential, boosts their confidence, and provides them with the modern, equitable learning environment they truly deserve.

Back Up Plan

  • Targeted Micro-Donations & Classroom Item Swaps
    • We will launch a smaller, hyper-focused "wishlist" project strictly for high-priority, lower-cost items like student headphones and mousepads.
    • We will audit other classrooms and the campus storage to see if any comfortable chairs, stool alternatives, or rugs can be repurposed for our lab.
  •  Community & School Support
    • We will ask our school's parent-teacher organization (PTO) or local community partners for micro-grants or small donations of organizational supplies.
    • We will look to align future needs with the school district's technology supply or building maintenance budgets.
