Curating Our Makerspace With Maker Maven

The Description

Makerspaces, sometimes also referred to as hackspaces, hackerspaces, and fablabs are creative, DIY spaces where students can gather to create, invent and learn. As a teacher, I am responsible for preparing my students for the 21st century and there is no better way to do that by creating a makerspace in our classroom. We will do this through Maker Maven who curates amazing supplies that makes building a makerspace a one-stop shop.

Maker Maven makerspace kits are designed for students to "Unbox & Start Making" and encourage basic STREAM concepts through hands-on makerspace activities. Each makerspace kit contains several makerspace activities complete with activity instructions, materials, and task cards containing focus question(s) and extension activities.

If this is the type of classroom you wish you could have been a part of when you were a student, please consider making an investment in our fundraiser. Every generous investment brings these awesome resources one step closer to our classroom.

Here is the breakdown in cost for fundraising for Maker Maven

  • Innovator Kit (x1) - $299.00
  • Preferred Partner Program - $36.50
  • PledgeCents Platform Fee - $18.25
  • Payment Processing Fee - $10.95
  • Total - $365.00 (rounded up to the nearest dollar)

Back Up Plan

I will purchase as many kits from the Maker Maven store that I can to help my students receive better experiences.

Current Status of our fundraiser for MakerSpace

May 15, 2017

Greetings!  We raised a total of $197 during our PledgeCents MakerMaven Cause!  This is awesome. We have received a quote from MM on the items we would like to purchase. They are: two Mini Buddha Boards (water painting activity), Ozobot starter pack (color activated robot), Bloxels (design & build your own video game), and Printmaking Scratch Foam (print designs using water soluble ink, foam sheets, & a brayer roller).  Don't these sound exciting? When we receive these kits I will post pictures so you can see with your own eyes what your dollars bought for our scholars.

Thank you!

About the Creator

Our Collegiate Library/Student Union is a unique place. It is not always quiet, as one might expect a traditional library to be...because it is more than that. We do check out books and always encourage reading. As I personally believe, "Books are food for the soul." And we are building our collection nearly from scratch, our students effectively involving themselves through a book drive they initiated before Christmas break! We also offer on-line resources, printing, computers, and chrome books for student use. Additionally, we are implementing a Maker Space program to support the STEAM focus of our campus. But, even beyond all those things, our space is a gathering place for students to exchange ideas, share knowledge, express their own thoughts (both deep ones and not so deep ones); a place to create and study, brainstorm and contemplate...individually or in study groups. Our hope is that our students will feel a sense of ownership, in that it is a place for them, but also a sense of responsibility for the same reason. As part of the collegiate experience, the Student Union is a vital component to the community, independence, and self-discipline we are attempting to develop in our scholars.
