The Description
With these funds I will...be able to give to my students the most important gift.....knowledge. My students live in a world where video games and technology is overrunning their lives. I want to be able to show my students that reading books is so much more than just an assignment for school. I want to be able to show them that not only are books simply great to read for knowledge; but books that are award winning, creative, debatable, and thought provoking give you power. Books give you the power to make decisions and choices in life with an understanding of the world around you. In addition books gift creativity to students who may not have found it otherwise. My students need choice, and being able to have a library that can give them the ability to choose their books is amazing. Many of my students either do not have the resources or the ability to find and read great books. I believe it is my gift, passion, and responsibility to give that opportunity to my students.
I wish to purcahse a large library, a collection of numerous books from young adult authors who are not only award winning but great writers. I wish to give my students mutiple copies of books so they may read together and share, growing in experience and knowledge. I also want my students to rediscover the joy that is reading with my classroom library. This library would be made up of various authors, genres, and reading levels to allow all students the opportunity to read at their grade level material and above. Pushing my students to read more, read better, and read for fun!
Back Up Plan
If I do not meet my goal I will purchase...as many books as possible! Any book is a gift, not by the hundreds, but by the single book itself. Each book brings something to my classroom and each book will give students the opportunity to learn and gain power through knowledge and creativity.
The goal is important but the number is not. A large number of books would be wonderful but any books at all bring new life into my class.
