The Description

McLain 7th Grade Academy is a Title 1 school located in North Tulsa, Oklahoma. Many of our students have dreams of attending college, and have set a goal of being Algebra ready to put themselves on track to becoming competitive applicants for some of the nation's top universities. My intention is to purchase a Scholastic practice book(200 books) for each student. This workbook is a fantastic resource to help our students build up basic mathematical skills, and eventually move on to mastering concepts necessary for them to experience success in Algebra next year. Furthermore, gives each student the sense of ownership of their own education. To provide my students with a practice book and the opportunity to achieve Algebra readiness, it costs almost $10 per student. For just $10 per student, we can help provide the students of North Tulsa with a resource that can set them on the pathway to achieve their dreams.

I will use whatever funds we raise to purchase as many workbooks for our students as we can.

Meet Team Endurance

Meet some of my favorite students from Mr. Tim Jackson's second hour class! At least once a week, I have the privilege of interacting with Mr. Jackson's students at tutoring or by volunteering to help out during my planning period in his second hour class. As of today, one of Mr. Jackson had his first of four classes completely funded. Thank you to all who have supported every student attending McLain 7th Grade Academy in their mission to become Algebra I ready.

The Halfway Point

My 5th hour class was working hard to analyze the meaning of the 3/5 Compromise on Friday. They were extremely excited to learn that 4 out of 8 of all of McLain 7th Grade Academy's math classes now have workbooks! Thank you to each and every one of our donors. Your generosity will not go to waste!

Ms. Thornton's sixth hour class says thank you to their donors for the new workbooks! So far, there are enough workbooks for 2 of 8 math classes at McLain 7th Grade Academy.

About the Creator

Although my time at Virginia Tech was equally challenging and rewarding, I am a proud first generation college graduate. After earning my Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, I made the tough decision to move about 1,200 miles away from my hometown in Sterling, Virginia to Tulsa, Oklahoma. During my time in Oklahoma, I hope to provide students with an education that will give them opportunity to attend college if they choose to do so. I am currently teaching Pre-Algebra, as well as a reading intervention class at McLain 7th Grade Academy.
